Highlights

The Centre for Advanced Research in Environmental Radioactivity (CARER) was established by the Mangalore University through the financial support from the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India, and technical support from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). The centre is engaged in frontline research on radioecology and environmental radioactivity in collaboration with BRNS, BARC, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) and many other institutions of India and other countries.

The highlights of the centre are:

  1. Most advanced centre for Radiation Physics research in the country with state-of-the art facilities
  2. Accredited by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB)
  3. Excellent infrastructure facility of international standard
  4. MoUs with BRNS, BARC, and NPCIL
  5. Collaboration with 10 countries -MoUs with Lund Univ., Sweden, NIRS, Japan, Washington University, Hirosaki University, Japan
  6. Users from ~ 40 different institutions of the country
  7. 95 publications in international journals
    1. ~ 20 Publications through international collaboration
  8. Offering a course on M Sc Medical Physics jointly with CARRT
  9. Edited a special volume of Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, Elsevier & Edited 3 conference proceedings book
  10. One CSIR Post-Doc Fellow, 4 SRF, 3 JRF and 2 BARC Scientist currently undertaking Ph D. M Sc project students - 15.
  11. 2 Adjunct Professors - Prof. Y S Mayya, Formerly with BARC, IIT-B. Prof. P M Ravi, BARC
  12. Capability to measure radionuclides of interest in the entire nuclear fuel cycle - only center in the University system
  13. 9 major research projects (completed + ongoing) - total funding received ~ 9.5 crore
  14. Consultancy projects - ~ 1.3 crore
  15. Grant generated through analysis of samples from other institutions ~ 24 lakh during last 5 years
