The Computer Centre, Mangalore University was started in the year 1990 under the UGC special assistance programme with the main objective to provide computational services to various Academic / Administrative departments of Mangalore University, and to impart training programme on computer related areas and its applications to faculty, students, researchers and administrative staff of Mangalore University. The Computer Centre is well equipped with reasonably good computer system environment and manned by a team of qualified professionals. The Computer Centre is being upgraded from time to time to provide the best computational infrastructure.

Facilities

Computational Facilities

Computer Centre houses mail server, web server, Application server to provide ICT services. These servers are connected to clients in cyber lab and other PG Departments/offices/centres. Campus network on OFC interconnects all computers systems in one logical network facilitating services to be utilized from any server on the network. The overall campus network diagram is as shown in Fig.1. Central servers are available round the clock on 24x7 basis.

Cyber Lab Facility

Cyber lab is the facility made available to all users. It houses 32 desktop systems with internet connectivity. It also has adequate peripherals such as printers, scanners. Cyber lab is operational from 9.00 AM to 7.00 PM on all working days

E-Mail Facility

Computer Centre hosts in-house mail server with domain mail. mangaloreuniversity.ac.in. Web mail services are available on sun hardware and SME server software.  

Web hosting services

University website at www.mangaloreuniversity.ac.in  provides comprehensive information about programs, services offered by the university. This website is designed, maintained and hosted on in house server running open source operating system.

Internet Facility

Internet communication is the lifeline in todays connected digital world. University provides internet facility through two services providers viz BSNL and ERNET. ERNET provides full text access to scholarly journals on a 1 Gbps leased line. BSNL provides additional separate 10 Mbps leased line. Cyberoam device provides firewall services, anti-spam, anti-virus intrusion detection and content filtering services. This ensures secure and safe internet experience to all users. Internet access is available at all departments/offices.

Documentation Facility

The Computer Centre also houses the following devices for the purposes of documentation /printing/scanning/backup.
