  • Established in 2003 & 2008 respectively by Government of Karnataka
  • Located in the Mangalore University campus
  • A deposit of 10 lakhs INR provided by State for the Peeta
  • A deposit of 1 Crore INR provided by State for the Research Centre

Objectives of the Chair & Centre

  • To organize literary and cultural activities related to kanaka and the socio- cultural history of Karnataka and india.
  • To organize seminars, workshops and lectures on kanaka as well as on the themes and issues relevant to kanaka’s concerns.
  • To encourage research on themes and issues releted to kanaka.
  • To publish documents and relevant materials on kanak and his time.
  • To publish edited volumes on kanaka and the Bhakthi movement.
  • to translate the works of kanaka into English and other Indian languages.
  • To develop a specialist library on Kanaka, Karnataka’s cultural history and literature as well as bhakthi movement in india and elsewhere. We also intend to include in this library, studies and works on philosophy, religion and spiritualism.
  • To organize audiovisual programmes on Kanaka and related themes.
